Since September 2025, I serve as a temporary professor for Democracy and Participation at the Europa University Flensburg. In my research, I focus on how democracies evolve, how linkages between the political system, democratic institutions, and citizens change – and how citizens‘ demands for democracy and participation develop. For this, I zoom in on democratic attitudes as well as patterns of citizen engagement and participation as well as developments of political organization and mobilization with parties and social movements.
At CEU’s Department of Public Policy, I am currently part of the EU Horizon project EMMELO on European Men, Masculinity, and Extremist Leadership Online.
From 2023-2026, I was part of CEU’s team with the Horizon project Brridge, which connected four European universities in a new network to strengthen democracy research.
In the past, I have regularly conducted and been part of research projects in the fields of party development, citizen protests, participation research, urban development and participation.
